FAQ
When I login to my UKVI account, it shows the wrong status. What can I do?
This depends on what kind of wrong status is showing.
Showing pre-settled status but wrong expiry date
If you have pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, it should not show as expired, except if your status has been curtailed (which means removed), or if the Home Office decides your pre-settled status was “granted in error” (see below for more details).
Pre-settled status should otherwise never expire, and be automatically renewed a few weeks before it reaches its expiry date (or automatically upgraded to settled status if you are eligible - see our webpage Automatic upgrades to settled status
Showing as pre-settled status when you have settled status
First check that you don’t have duplicate UKVI accounts.
This can happen for example if:
- you were granted pre-settled status having applied with a previous passport
- you then renewed your passport but didn’t link that new passport to your pre-settled status
- you then applied for, and were granted, settled status with your new passport
In this scenario, you will likely have two UKVI accounts. If you log in with your previous passport, you will see that you have pre-settled status. If you login with your new passport, you will see that you have settled status.
See our separate FAQ “I seem to have more than one UKVI account, does this matter?” for tips on how to deal with this situation.
Showing wrong status altogether
If your eVisa is showing the wrong status altogether, it could be that your status is ‘entangled’ with that of someone else. This is a data breach, and as well as the resolution steps listed below you should submit a complaint to the Home Office, asking for an ‘ex gratia’ payment as compensation.
What to do
If your eVisa shows the wrong status, you should:
- Report it to the Home Office - https://www.gov.uk/evisa/report-error-evisa
- Report it to the3million - https://the3million.org.uk/report-it
- Complain to the IMA - https://ima-citizensrights.org.uk/report-complaint/
- Write to your MP - https://www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-an-mp-or-lord/contact-yo…
