The EU Settlement Scheme & eVisa Transition: Ten urgent fixes
The promises made during the Brexit referendum about EU citizens’ rights were not upheld. Despite millions now having a new immigration status under the EU Settlement Scheme, we are witness to extremely serious problems: for people who have still not been able to secure their rights and for those who have their rights in theory but are unable to prove them.
We have created a set of ten policy proposals, none of which require primary legislation, which we recommended to be acted upon by the new Government after the 2024 General Election.
These decisive policies would go a long way towards addressing some of the shortfalls and complexities of the EU Settlement Scheme, and the extension of the flawed digital immigration system to all migrants.
Thank you to all civil society organisations and immigration law practitioners who have endorsed these recommendations.
