My Biometric Residence Card/Permit is expired, lost or stolen. Can I travel without a BRC/BRP, and how do I replace it?
If you are a non-EU family member with pre-settled or settled status, and you are a visa national (which means that citizens from your country would need to apply for a visa to visit the UK), then you would likely have been issued with a physical Biometric Residence Card (BRC), which was necessary to check-in / board a carrier from abroad, and to re-enter the UK.
However this document will have expired by 31 December 2024, and it is no longer possible to get replacement BRCs because the UK Government is moving to a digital immigration status. See this FAQ for more details: My biometric residence permit (BRP) / biometric residence card (BRC) expires on 31 Dec 2024 - when and how do I renew it?
Airlines and other carriers like ferries and train companies, will instead be checking people's immigration status using computer software called 'interactive Advance Passenger Information (iAPI)'.
You need to make sure your current passport is linked to your digital status (now known as an eVisa) - see our important FAQ "I’ve renewed my passport. Do I really need to keep my UKVI account / eVisa updated? What happens if I don’t link a new passport or national identity document to my digital status?" for more information.
