I have (pre-)settled status under the EUSS. Do I need to apply for an eVisa or set up a UKVI account?

If you were granted status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) you should already have a UKVI account, and should be able to see your digital status, which the Home Office now refers to as an eVisa. In fact, the EUSS was the initial roll-out of eVisas.

If you can log into View & Prove (https://www.gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status) and see your digital status online, then you have a UKVI account, and can access your eVisa. You should also be able to generate share codes to prove your status, and you should be able to update your UKVI account details.

The UKVI account manages the email address and telephone number that are used to send security codes when logging into View & Prove. The UKVI account also manages other information such as your contact details, and whether you have a helper or proxy set up on your account.

Lastly, but very importantly, the UKVI account holds a record of identity documents (e.g. passports and national identity cards) that belong to you.

It is really important to keep these details up to date - see these FAQS:

If you have a Biometric Residence Card (BRC) as a non-EU family member of an EU citizen:

    • If you have applied to the EUSS, you will have a UKVI account and eVisa (as described above). Your BRC will very likely have expired on 31st December 2024. You will now have to rely on your eVisa to prove your status.
    • If you have not applied to the EU Settlement Scheme, or you do not know if you have a UKVI account, please seek urgent legal advice to assess your situation. You may need to make a late application to the EUSS, after which you will automatically end up with a UKVI account.

We are aware that many people who do not need to set up a UKVI account may have received emails from the Home Office which are confusing. This includes people who automatically got a UKVI account / eVisa when they applied for their immigration status (for example, those with (pre-)settled status under the EUSS, or those with Hong Kong BN(O) visas) and people who don't need one at all - British citizens. Rest assured that if you can log into View & Prove, you do not need to set up a UKVI account and you can ignore such emails.

If you have EUSS status but cannot log into View & Prove, then there may be a technical error that the Home Office need to fix. Please contact the UKVI Resolution Centre and report it to the3million.
