A change in Prime Minister must be an opportunity to change for the better on rights
Ten years ago, during the Brexit referendum, EU citizens living in the UK were told that nothing would change for us. We were made promises about our future and security. Those promises have not been kept. Through successive governments and Prime Ministers we have continued to face significant issues, including with being able to demonstrate our very right to remain. Many of us have been left in limbo as we wait on decisions about our futures. We have seen over the last decade increasingly hostile immigration policies. None have kept a Prime Minister in power. None have improved lives or benefitted the country.
While a change of Prime Minister can be seen as a time of instability, it is also an opportunity to change, to reset, and to ensure that the promises made to EU citizens about our rights are finally fully upheld. We hope that the change of leadership will be an opportunity to halt the growing hostility to everyone who has made the UK their home.
