FAQ
Can I apply for Settled Status if I have lived in the UK for 5 years but not consecutively?
No, you cannot apply for settled status if you have not lived in the UK for 5 consecutive years of ‘continuous residence’. For example if you lived in the UK for 4 years between 2011 and 2015, and then for another year in 2019.
However, the definition of ‘continuous residence’ changed on 16 July 2025 to become a bit more flexible, so check your circumstances against our FAQ: What does ‘continuous residence’ or ‘continuity of residence’ mean? to see if you might qualify.
