I have physical proof of my UK immigration status, but it has an expiry date of 31 December 2024. I’ve been told I cannot renew it - what will happen after 2024? How will I be able to travel?

Over the course of 2024, everyone who currently has a physical proof of status will be asked to create a UKVI account so that they can see their immigration status online - also known as an eVisa. See this Gov.UK webpage for more information.

From 2025, everyone’s immigration status will be checked automatically when you check-in for your journey to the UK.

This means it is crucial that you keep your eVisa updated with your travel document (passport or national identity card - but see our FAQ I have (pre-) settled status. Can I use my EU national identity card to enter the UK? for important information about use of national identity cards after 31 December 2025.)

See this page on our website for more information.
