Changes to pre-settled status: Q&A with immigration experts Thursday 20 June | Webinar
We held a webinar on Zoom on Thursday 20 June 2024 at 18:30, where we took your questions on the recent changes to the EU Settlement Scheme:
- Pre-settled status extensions are being increased to 5 years (from the previous 2 years)
- Expiry dates of status will not be visible to employers, landlords and other checkers
- No further checks are required to be done by landlords or employers once someone is in a job or tenancy
Immigration experts Chris Benn, Legal and Policy Manager at Seraphus and Kezia Tobin, Head of Policy and Advocacy at the3million took EU citizens' and family member's questions.
We went through the main repercussions of these changes: the positive impact they will have for EU citizens with pre-settled status; the continued need for people to secure settled status as soon as possible and the advantages of doing so; and what these changes mean for people who have been absent from the UK for a period of time.
