Welfare justice research
We are conducting interviews with EU citizens and family members with pre settled status, as well as welfare advisers from specialist organisations. The research focuses on both the material and emotional impacts of welfare exclusion and on identifying systemic issues in DWP and local authority decision making.
Get involved - people with lived experience
We are looking to hear directly from EU citizens and family members who have been denied access to welfare benefits, housing or other vital support while holding pre-settled status.
Participants will be invited to share their story in a safe space of a one to one interview or a carefully curated group setting and offered a stipend to compensate for their time investment.
Interviews can take place in English or another preferred language, with interpretation if needed.
Your experience will help build evidence for change and may also support further legal challenges where appropriate.
Get involved - advisers and caseworkers
We invite welfare advisers, caseworkers and frontline practitioners from specialist organisations to take part in the research. Your insight is essential to understanding how eligibility rules are interpreted, applied and challenged in practice.
Participation involves a one to one semi structured interview lasting around 60 minutes, conducted in person, online or by phone. Interviews will explore patterns of refusal, common barriers, examples of good and poor practice, and the wider impacts on individuals and families.
Advisers and caseworkers are also best placed to introduce us to people who experience those issues and encourage their participation.
